AIM/ GOALS
This project aimed to expand Taos’s interest in entrepreneurship, math and creativity. We also aimed for it to lead to more reading, writing and oral presentations through his sales and business goals.
BACKGROUND
Taos had an intense interest in making a bit of money for himself, ever since he watched his big brother and sister create business projects of their own. He was also very keen to make gifts for his friends and neighbors and he wanted a way to offer something to them for the holidays.
Taos recognized that if he wanted to make a bit of spending money he would need to sell his cookies to his friends and neighbors. He worked on a presentation so that he could go door to door, sell cookies, accept money and make change. He also was excited to make printed signs that he could use to sell his cookies.
METHOD
Taos had to decide who he could sell to and how he could reach out to them.
- He made signs.
- He set up a Facebook page.
- He signed up to work a booth at a Christmas Fair.
Baking helped Taos learn about fractions and measurement.
- We talked with Taos about the cost of making cookies and setting the price for selling them.
- We included the cost of wrapping paper and bows.
- We practiced accepting money and making change.
EVALUATION
We evaluated Taos’s use of his Topic Plan by assessing the progress he made in his oral skills, his math skills, and his baking skills. He did make progress in all these areas and felt proud of himself. He also was happy to have money for buying Christmas presents for others.
